Netflix Workstations

Cloud workstations for studio artists and production teams

I was an early engineer on Netflix's cloud workstation platform, which enabled thousands of studio artists and production users to acquire and remotely access Linux and Windows workstations provisioned with the environments and software they needed.

My role

I initially joined the team to build a Go-based instance discovery and heartbeat agent. The agent allowed the control plane to discover available instances, report their health, and identify when a workstation had become unresponsive.

That work contributed to patented Netflix workstation technology.

Over time, I transitioned into full-stack development of the artist-facing workstation portal and the administrative tools used by operations, production support, and team managers.

From infrastructure to product

My work evolved from backend infrastructure into the end-user experience.

I worked on the interfaces artists used to acquire and access workstations, as well as the management tools used to support and operate the platform at scale.

I was especially focused on listening to artists and support teams, identifying recurring pain points, bringing those insights back to engineering, and improving the UI and workflows around workstation management.

Workstations 2.0

I contributed to Workstations 2.0, including the initial demo and migration to Netflix's newer internal security model.
